F.A.Q.
Do you do appraisals?
Yes we do. Our appraisals are done by a GIA Graduate Gemologist. Our written appraisals include a detailed description of the item, a picture and an insurance replacement value.
How much do appraisals cost?
Our written appraisals are $150 for the first item and $90 for each additional item for items dropped off. If you have a large quantity of items we may offer discounts – see store for details. Appraisals done while you wait can only be done by appointment and cost $225 for the first item and $135 for each additional item.
Do I need an appointment for an appraisal?
If you would like to have your item appraised while you wait then we do require an appointment. We can do up to 2 item per single appraisal appointment and the cost is $225 for the first piece and $135 for a second item. An appraisal can take on average about 45 minutes to an hour depending on the complexity of the piece. If you have more than 2 items, or if you don’t need to wait with it, you can drop the items off any time during normal business hours and we will appraise them and call you when the appraisal is ready. The jewelry remains in the safe when not being appraised and is fully insured while in our possession.
Is your appraiser a Graduate Gemologist?
Bradley T. Harris is GIA Graduate Gemologist, GIA graduate in diamonds, diamond grading, gem identification and colored stones. He is also a proud member of the American Gem Society, GIA Alumni Association, and the Better Business Bureau.
How much is ring sizing?
For sterling silver the price starts at $35, for 14KT gold the price starts at $55, and for platinum the price starts at $85. If you bring the ring in we will give you a time estimate and an exact price. Several factors affect the price of a ring sizing: type of metal, millimeter size of the band, melee diamonds that may become loose when sized, a precious gemstone that may need to be protected or removed and reset, etc.
Do you buy jewelry?
Yes we do. If it is something that we think we can use, we will make you an offer you for the piece of jewelry, or putting it on consignment may be an option. If it is not something we can sell as is, we will give you an estimate of the scrap value.
What is consignment? How does it work?
Consignment is when we put your jewelry in our showcase and we try to sell it for you. We can help you figure out a price that would be attractive to potential buyers. We polish the jewelry and make sure all stones are tight, essentially making it look attractive and new.
Are repairs done on the premises?
Yes. Repairs are done in the shop right here in our store, with a few exceptions. For example: alternative metal rings (cobalt chrome, titanium, tungsten, etc.), are unable to be sized. The ring must be returned to the manufacturer and they would then remake the ring in your size. Another example would be watch repairs. We can test watch batteries, change the batteries and change watch bands. For mechanical or electronic issues, we send watches to our horologist and get an estimate to repair for you before any work is done.
Do you offer same day service on repairs?
Some simple repairs can be done same day or even while you wait. If you need something done same day, give us a call and we will let you know if your repair can be done right away. There is a rush fee for same day service.
Do you do watch repairs?
Yes. We can test and change batteries here in our shop. Watch repair is a delicate process requiring specialized tools and training for which we have an expert horologist that we use. He will tell us what work needs to be done and what the cost of repair will be before any work is done. Only after approval will he begin repair work.
